چکیده

This paper discusses empirical and analytical rules to select a suitable grid resolution for output maps and based on the inherent properties of the input data. The choice of grid resolution was related with the cartographic and statistical concepts: scale, computer processing power, positional accuracy, size of delineations, inspection density, spatial autocorrelation structure and complexity of terrain. These were further related with the concepts from the general statistics and information theory such as Nyquist frequency concept from signal processing and equations to estimate the probability density function. Selection of grid resolution was demonstrated using four datasets: (1) GPS positioning data— the grid resolution was related to the area of circle described by the error radius, (2) map of agricultural plots—the grid resolution was related to the size of smallest and narrowest plots, (3) point dataset from soil mapping—the grid resolution was related to the inspection density, nugget variation and range of spatial autocorrelation and (4) contour map used for production of digital elevation model—the grid resolution was related with the spacing between the contour lines i.e. complexity of terrain. It was concluded that no ideal grid resolution exists, but rather a range of suitable resolutions. One should at least try to avoid using resolutions that do not comply with the effective scale or inherent properties of the input dataset. Three standard grid resolutions for output maps were finally recommended: (a) the coarsest legible grid resolution—this is the largest resolution that we should use in order to respect the scale of work and properties of a dataset; (b) the finest legible grid resolution—this is the smallest grid resolution that represents 95% of spatial objects or topography; and (c) recommended grid resolution—a compromise between the two. Objective procedures to derive the true optimal grid resolution that maximizes the predictive capabilities or information content of a map are further discussed. This methodology can now be integrated within a GIS package to help inexperienced users select a suitable grid resolution without doing extensive data preprocessing. r 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Impact of region of interest size and location in Gafchromic film dosimetry

Introduction: Accurate film dosimetry requires careful consideration of sources of uncertainty. Some of the sources of uncertainty are dependent on the size and location of region of interest (ROI), especially in small fields. Avoiding the penumbra is often a reason for using a small ROI. In contrast, choosing very small ROIs may increase uncertainty due to the reduction of th...

On the Pixel Expansion of Hypergraph Access Structures in Visual Cryptography Schemes

In a visual cryptography scheme, a secret image is encoded into n shares, in the form of transparencies. The shares are then distributed to n participants. Qualified subsets of participants can recover the secret image by superimposing their transparencies, but non-qualified subsets of participants have no information about the secret image. Pixel expansion, which represents the number of subpi...

طراحی یک الگوریتم و بررسی دقت آن برای تعیین دانسیته فیلم رادیوگرافی با تغییر زمان تابش

Background and Aims Bone density is frequently used in medical diagnosis and research. The current methods for determining bone density are expensive and not easily available in dental clinics. The aim of this study was to design and evaluate the accuracy of a digital method for hard tissue densitometry which could be applied on personal computers.   Materials and Methods: An aluminum step we...

استفاده از مدل جاذبه برای استخراج انحنای مرز دریاچه سد

Introduction The attraction model algorithm spatially depends on the neighborhoods of the central pixels that are attracting surrounding sub-pixels. Another possibility is the hypothesis of subpixel interaction as introduced by Mertens et al. (2003) and Atkinson (2005). In order to reach a pixel state with the maximum number of sub-pixels of identical classes neighboring, there are several met...

Robot Motion Vision Part II: Implementation

The idea of Fixation introduced a direct method for general recovery of shape and motion from images without using either feature correspondence or optical flow [1,2]. There are some parameters which have important effects on the performance of fixation method. However, the theory of fixation does not say anything about the autonomous and correct choice of those parameters. This paper presents ...
